The Truth About DJ Pricing PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Many people believe that they should spend as much money as they need to on many aspects of their special events, such as the event location, linen & furniture rentals, caterer, and announcements/invitations. Then they'll see what money is left over and try to hire a cheap DJ or, even worse, run their event using their own iPod. As with anything, you will get what you pay for when you hire a cheap DJ and you may just ruin the event entirely if you use an iPod. Click the link below to see what can happen when you use an "iPod DJ" for your special event:

John Ruskin said, "There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price alone are that person's lawful prey." This definitely holds true for DJs. A professional DJ must invest tens of thousands of dollars into sound equipment, lighting equipment, music, and a transport vehicle in order to operate his business. Furthermore, although it may appear that you're paying $80 and up per hour of DJ service, the truth is that a lot of work goes on behind the scenes. The DJ has to plan the event, communicate with the people in charge of running it, purchase music, edit music, load and transport equipment, set up and tear down equipment at the event site, and more. With this being the case, a professional DJ will not charge $200 for a four-hour event and if you hire someone who does ask only $200 for a four-hour event, you could be ruining the entire celebration.
